Wed. March 16th.

Shwe Dagon at night.

"Imagine a small room, all in turquoise & gold. It is as rich in color, it makes one feel one is in the heart of a jewel & scorched by the intensity of it."

I wouldn't have missed the experience of meeting them. It was rich & rewarding.

Returned at 8.30- Dinner & then, Louis & Dorothy accompanied me on a visit to the Shwe Dagon. I wanted to experience it at night & am glad I went. It is magical - the jeweled quietude, ten golden Buddhas shining in the candlelight - The sleeping groups on the bare stones before the Pagodas - the greyed orange of the Ponghio robes - the dark skin of two people blending into the fragrant night - altogether unforgettable

Thursday, March 17th.
U Kaung - art.

9 AM- Rose Tun Tha came to pose. I had to hand Dorothy's portrait & the U Nu canvases, so we did not start till 10 o'clock. However, by 11.30, it was finished, good likeness & drawing I was pleased to have done it for her in return for the thoughtfulness of her gift.

At 11.30 U Kaung came to visit. Remained until 2.30 while we went thru catalogues, deciding on color & black & white prints for the Art Library which U Win has gotten 7,000 K. for. I told him I would act as agent & try to get the best selection; always keeping price in mind. I suggested color slides for lectures. Loose leaved color volumes of the artists & small paper covered books as well- Will get technical books- on use of mediums, framing, wood carving, terra cotta, perspective, etc. Also on figure drawing.

After 2.30 - to Pan American for tickets. Came home to start packing - (Had already picked up photos at Aluya's which turned out very well.)

In evening, dinner party at Marie Caudle's. The food was superb -
