drove to Valley of Sharon, fertile with rich, red earth, fragrant with orange trees in blossom which the wind wafted gently to us & bounded by the Judean Hills. All along the beautiful paved roads, rich settlements & towns have sprung up - in land which was a desert only 12 years ago. Almost unbelievable healthy, red cheeked happy looking children, everywhere, the people dressed simply - but an air of well being & a prosperous country makes itself felt.

Back to the Yarden hotel to meet the Israelis at 1.30 & met there Moishe Rabinowitch, director of Kupat Cholein - the Health Directorate. He sent regards to papa & had many nice things to say of him. He mentioned he had not known Walinsky's daughter was so famous - this because he had read two articles by Bracha Hacohen in which she had mentioned me & the portraits I had done of U Nu;

I was pleasantly surprised to hear about them & will try to get a copy.

With Sara & Arnold, drove to Herzliyya, where we visited a family from America, Chenada & Aaron Schneiderman in their home which they had built. Schneiderman was formerly a business manufacturer in America. He & his wife were both friends since early youth. He was a Jewish war veteran as well. Their only son, trained in N.Y. for work in a kibbutz. There, he had met a young Jewish girl also fired with the same ideal, married her & came to live in a kibbutz in Israel. Schneiderman, his father, followed suit, sold his business & established his home in Herliyya. It is a handsome, modern house with a large terrace facing the Mediterranean & a beautiful landscape. He has built & rented houses & also runs a chicken farm of 1000 hens. They have planted various exotic fruit trees beautiful in flower, & altgether the family is admirable in spirit. The
