Jerusalem.
Art School

one of Biblical times. Barbara drove me about the ancient streets up to the famous old wall (crossing to Trans-Jordan)

Visited the Art School, directed now by Mr. Goldberg, which Oleisky established six years ago. The main building is a beautiful old stone house, formerly belonging to the English Gov. general. Converted into offices & classrooms, teaching dentistry, engineering mechanics, technical

They have built machine shops & their own power plant, as well. When we visited the classes, the boys, in preparation for their school holiday (Pesach) were busy cleaning up their classrooms, standing on ladders & dusting, even the walls. (As their mothers do at home) Admirable to see.

Came back to the hotel to find a radio phone from home & within a few minutes, spoke to Dmily. It was wonderful hearing her voice sounding the nearest possible distance

Habrina 'Dron'

away. Itzak Hacohen & his wife then called at 7.30 to take me to the Habrina theatre to see Tea House. The sets & lighting were good, as was the performance as a whole.

10 AM. Drove to 'DRON' - at the beginning of the Negev - along a road which leads all the way to Cairo. To 'Rickon [[Rishon]] Lezion', a village where wine is made from grapes grown there. This village was established by Baron Rothschild. Shoshana ben Josef - director of colony "Rem" - once there and Jews from Morocco, Tunis. She is a grandmother, a Bulgarian Jew early settler, who volunteered to come here & direct the colony. Built up houses, given food, dishes, bedding & everything. In other colonies, a two room house is given a family, with a cow or goat, 50 chickens, & earth to work. The colony has a club house for adults, a play room house for children, water, electricity. To all this, they have been brought directly from the boat.
