220 families - (This colony was formerly Arab - the birthplace of the Mufti - the leader of the Arabs in Israel against the Jews. 

Three school buildings, kindergarden & higher classes, hospital building, established by Kupat [[Aiolean?]] of Histadrut - Doctor, nurses, full medicine & equipment. Kbar Menachim (near this Kibbutz) In distance, have water brought from Kfar Menachem, through metal pipes driven by motors. Surrounding land is called "Lachaise" - Or Hillside, the 'Shomrin,' the guardians of the settlement. The newcomers remain for six months and are put to work immediately planting trees & clearing the land of rocks, etc. They are people who have never seen soap & civilized ways. I was deeply moved to enter the communal dining hall of the children - who have been there 3 months. They had all washed their hands outside the hall at an open tap under the teachers eye. - The dining room & kitchen were spotlessly clean - the children happy, smiling

Geler Yakov - the 35 who were killed

& already singing songs in Hebrew. Visited after - Chasenwald - Chaim Smolinski - Moshe - Ne - Tief - Lamed - He - the site of the thirty-five who were killed - Geler-Yakov! This entire trip was close to the Arab border. Only last week, in spite of the peaceful, smiling air of the settlements & valleys, two Jewish boys, who fell asleep while on guard, were killed. Along this way, 23 new settlements are planned. Therefore, the engineers & the group from the Histadrut made this trip to survey the land. They, themselves, had never seen it & told me that no visitors or tourists are ever taken there. At Geler-Yakov - there is much building going on, but life is so hard as yet, they can't keep people there, but the idealistic youths. In charge, is a young Jew from Turkey, who has been there for one year. (He had given up the life of a prosperous businessman in Turkey & an easy business in Haifa for this hardship) Has a head like an
