Also stopped by on way home to pick up a letter from Emily at the Hotel Yarcon.

Istanbul.
Fri. April 8,

Conversing with him I learned of his political ideas, on his reaction to Gandhi's passivism, what his country has to learn from Israel, and the need for positive action in the future. Violence if necessary - although he is a most gentle soul and as a doctor seeks to cure & heal mankind. "The next ten years must bring with them change," he said. He has read all the important books on China by her leaders & believes her to be the country of the future.

"Even the Bible states that the nations of the East shall be victorious in a war with the nations of the West." We arrived in Istanbul at 2, & were settled at the hotel by 4 o'clock. The bus ride from the airport thru the city (old quarters) was fabulously interesting. The view of the city divided by the river, the boats, brilliantly lit, the red flag of Turkey with white star & moon flying in the breeze - the wonderful spires & domes of the mosques wherever one looks. They are magnificent.
