Sun. May 15 Lisbon, Sintra
Cascais, Estoril.

Full day excursion to Lisboa surroundings -

From the Avenida da Liberdade - the Marquez Pombal Square to visit the Royal Palace of Queluz, the 18th Century summer residence of Royalty. The Portuguese Fontainbleau, charming in palest pink & greyed white with gardens designed by French architect. Then, visited the Royal Palace of Sintra (very beautiful & [[?]] grand) in many styles, begun in the 14th Century. Byron lived in Sintra for several years & it was here he began his work on Childe Harold. It is a beautiful old town encircled by rocks & mountains. We lunched in the home famously inhabited by Lord Byron & then went on to visit Pena Castle, a fantastic & interesting building - 1840, built by an architect (who, I believe, was a German baron) The dukes (Portuguese) who had it built was married to a Spanish Queen, so he had enough money to indulge his most fabulous wishes. He was so enchanted with

Then past Roca Cap (the most occidental point of Europe) along the blue, blue seaside to Guincho Beach & on to fashionable & trés chic Cascais, a lovely resort town with quaint, old bldgs. to give it character & then to Estoril. Small wonder Americans flock here. For 5 00 daily, with meals - they live in luxurious comfort, compared to 20' & 25' daily in our American resorts.

Met on the bus a nice, young woman, June E. Nelson, 246 N. Berendo 2 - A - Ha, California, Tel. Dunkirk 44709.

June is immense - tall, fat, classic features. A secretary for a electronic firm earing over 600- monthly. Forty-nine, divorced (because my husband was a congenital liar about everything & it went against my grain) Bright, kind, we lunched together & then she drove me to the hotel & to the airport to see me off. (Incidentally, she
