May 15  Lisbon to Bermuda

is driving thru Europe alone. Rents a car in each country. Has done England, Scotland, Paris, now Portugal, then to Spain & Rome.) Quite an undertaking. She hopes to write an article on it. 

Boarded the plane at 9.35 Portugal time. In In tourist quarters - it was fairly crowded & the two men opposite me talked incessantly so that I could not sleep. At past midnight, I asked the purser to change my quarters. There was room in first class - and I had a wonderful rest at least (hardly any sleep) with my feet up all the way, thank heavens. Gave him a tip of $1.50 - which overwhelmed him. It was little enough for the wonderful rest it afforded me.

Got to Bermuda (9.AM) Bermuda time (I think from home different)

Reservation at the 'Bermudiana Hotel' [[?]] at 20.00 daily (2 meals) Horrifying after the prices in Madrid, Barcelona & Portugal, which spoiled me.

May 16   Bermuda.

Had a wonderful ride in the limousine all the way from the air terminal to the hotel. Bathed, changed & went out to take a bus for some sightseeing. Decided to go to St. George - the oldest part of Bermuda (1640, etc. Forts - quaint lanes, etc). As I waited for a bus, a taxi drove by with two Bermudians, light negroes, who offered to drive me there for the bus fare. The woman & the man looked so pleasant - I accepted. It so happened , I was right. Both intelligent & well spoken. She, fat (200 lbs.) blue eyes, light brown hair, a singer by name of Catherine Trott (sings as Kay Trott) Has done radio work & made some recordings. Her best songs are blues altho she sings Calypso as well, to please the tourists. He is a former school teacher named Oliver Heyliger (part Dutch) driving a taxi to make more money, has also studied the modern dance (Kathleen Dunham work) & voice as well. When they heard I
