if I believed I could get satisfaction. I decided to let the matter drop until I could see Charlie.
My friend, George Brumbaugh, had arrived with this airship and outfit and was erecting his tent near mine. I told him of the treatment I had received and advised him to be cautious. We then transferred the gas from my balloon to his and I also gave him some acid and iron fillings [filings] with which to make his gas. George was quite a humorist but sometimes his jokes were not appreciated. He asked me to go to his room on some pretext. We heard a man and his wife having a family dispute through the partition. This did not interest me particularly, until I heard my name mentioned. The couple were performers on the grounds and it was evident that the husband was jealous and was threatening to shoot me on sight even though his wife repeatedly informed him that he was mistaken. I was glad I was leaving as I was not aware of the existance [existence] of this pair much less know the lady. George thought this was a great joke but I have never been able to see the humor in the triangle.
A NARROW ESCAPE AT BUFFALO
Our next engagement was with the H. A. Meldrum Company of Buffalo, New York. We were to be there one week and make but one flight. This was to be made from the grounds provided by Mr. Meldrum to the roof of his department story and return. Our train would pass through Cleveland where I was to stop off to see Charlie who was having trouble. I was met at the train and hurried to Luna Park. Lincoln Ceachy had made a flight on the previous day and had ripped the balloon open a flag pole but he escaped without injury. I was able to make the repairs in time to get aboard a train which arrive in Buffalo
