I was to carry a bomb of newspapers wrapped together and drop this bundle on the tower of the City Hall to demonstrate how easy it would be to blow up the city. The newspapers had given much space to this trip. Search lights were to sweep the skies in an effort to locate the ship. If I managed to get down town and drop the bomb, it would be a great achievement for me. As
Dick told me that this stunt would be of benefit later, I agreed to do it.

I had made a flight over the exact course and knew just what must be avoided. George Duesler was with me and it was his duty to keep the motor running while I would do the piloting. The trip was a huge success and the newspapers printed a "scarehead" about it.

But from my point of view it was not so good. The start was made and we flew straight as an arrow and passed beyond the tower of the City Hall. After turning around, I headed directly for the tower. Coming down to within one hundred feet the bomb was released and made a direct hit. Instantly the sky was ablaze with lights and a roar following the explosion which nearly caused me to fall off the ship. I was horrified and did not dare to look back to see the damage. I was convinced that someone had loaded the bomb with a high explosive and that I had wrecked the City Hall. I felt that I was in for it and that prison was yawning and beckoning to me to hurry. I became very mad knowing that Dick must have known all about this dastardly plot and had made a fool of me. [[strikethrough]] About the time we were ready to land, I had other troubles about which to worry. [[/strikethrough]]

SUCCESSFUL NEWSPAPER DISTRIBUTION

Dick rushed up and congratulated me on the success. I wanted to do some talking myself but as the newspaper boys were present I said nothing. It finally dawned on me that no damage had been done and the explosion which had so alarmed me was twenty pounds.
