Hoxey gained an altitude of about 500 feet and kept this throughout the entire flight. Figure eights were in order but Mr. Roosevelt did not mind. After about fifteen minutes, Hoxey brought the machine down again. When asked if he liked his ride, he replied, "Bully!" After getting him out of the machine, the automobile left the grounds. The Wright machines were capable of a speed of about 40 miles per hour. We were in no position to race with faster machines. However, Mr. Lewis worked out a plan to handicap the Wright machine in order that we could race with Alfred LeBlanc and his Bleriot monoplane. As he developed a speed of 60 miles per hour, our machine was a sorry spectacle.
After carrying all of the aviation meet officials un the aeroplane, we closed the meet and shipped our machines.
