twenty miles from where they resided in the country to Flagstaff where he could get assistance, if needed. I was so impressed with the necessity of care and companionship for him that I decided that at the end of the season, when the contract was virtually up, I would ask the Wright Brothers to release me. I would move to Los Angeles and bring my brother with me.  

On returning to Dayton, I called at the factory and asked Wilbur what he thought about the situation. He replied that it would not be convenient to let me go at the present time, that they had plans for me in the future.

I said, "Wilbur, I've [[strikethrough]] gone ahead and [[/strikethrough]] shipped my goods already. I would really like to do this thing. If my brother dies, I'll come back to you."

So we agreed. We settled up our accounts and I moved to Los Angeles, bought a home, and settled down. My one thought was that my brother must get well. He had a very advanced case of tuberculosis and the doctors would not hold out any hope whatever. I was happy to be with him during his last illness.
