explained to the proper authorities and the contract was extended.

I bought the factory outright and purchased rubber machinery from the Allen Machine Company of Erie, Pennsylvania and equipped myself to manufacture inner tubes for automobiles.

After the close of my government contract, I started in to manufacture inner tubes.

About the time I was [[strikethrough]] producing tubes [[/strikethrough]] in production, I made a contract to compound rubber for the Metal Hose and Tubing Company of Brooklyn and this contract kept the factory running.

I received a call from a gentleman who claimed that he represented the French Government and offered me a very large order for tires and tubes. I told him that I would look into the matter and would let him know in a few days.

I talked with my banker in Northport who explained that he would not be able to make a loan large enough and suggested one of the large banks in New York City. I then called on Harvey Gibson, president of the Liberty National Bank. He also explained that the loan necessary would not be justified by my total assets. He suggested that I sell out. He thought it would be an easy matter to find a buyer as quite a number of well financed companies were trying to get into the rubber business. He further suggested that I do it immediately. I put an [[strikethrough]] ad [[/strikethrough]] advertisement in the India Rubber World. [[strikethrough]] He was ready to guarantee that I would receive a number of answers. [[/strikethrough]]

I surprised a number of people including myself by doing just that. [[strikethrough]] I quickly placed the ad and [[/strikthrough]] The following morning received a telephone call from a Mr. Myers who asked me to meet him for dinner at the Belmont Hotel. He told me he was prepared to pay a reasonable cash price. I named a figure and he promptly accepted. Then he invited me to go with him and meet his principal.

In less than a week I had cleared title and the deal was closed.
