KNABENSHUE #8

Mr. Hagar ordered to [[strikethrough]] me to go to Dayton at once and pack up the Kitty Hawk Machine and ship it to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and set it up in the new building.
I explained to Mr. Hagar that I would be very glad to do as he requested, but that the machine in question was the personal property of Mr. Wright and that I would do as he requested, see Mr. Wright and try to persuade him to loan his machine. I was successful, the machine was shipped and set up, it would probably have remained in moth balls had it not been for the interest and foresight of Lester Gardner.
At the time the machine was damaged at Kitty Hawk, the impression was that it would not pay to try to repair it, but on examination, there were a few ribs broken on the top surface, all of the uprights and spars were intact, it was necessary to replace the tail assembly, the front elevator, the skids, the propellers and a new base for the engine. Also replace the crankshaft as the original was lost in the first New York Aero Club Show. Also, I believe a new cloth cover was added to the top surface.
