FACTORY SALES OF AUTOMOBILE TRAILERS: 1936

    Director William L. Austin, Bureau of the Census, Department of Commerce, announces that according to the data collected at the first special canvass of the Automobile Trailer Industry, based on returns from 357 manufacturers, factory sales of automobile trailers in 1936 amounted to 53,646 units valued at $27,421,763.
    The 357 manufacturers reported factory sales as follows: 16,173 house of coach trailers, valued at $8,496,021; 10 house cars, valued at $9,521; motor truck trailers, valued at $2,296,444; and 23,875 motor truck semi-trailers, valued at $15,848,150.
    Table 1 presents statistics for factory sales of automobile trailers, by types, for the United States; Table 2, factory sales of all types of automobile trailers, by States; Table 3, factory sales of house or coach trailers, by States; and Table 4, factory sales of motor truck trailers and semi-trailers, by States. Statistics by States are shown wherever it is possible to do so without disclosing the operations of an individual manufacturer.
    The value of factory sales of automobile trailers for 1936 was $27,421,763, as compared with $18,850,734, the total value of automobile trailers produced in 1935, as reported to the Census of Manufactures for that year. Factory sales of house or coach trailers for 1936 were valued at $8,496,021, as compared with $1,840,497, the value of trailers for passenger cars produced in 1935. Factory sales of motor truck trailers and semi-trailers for 1936 were valued at %18,144,594, as compared with $17,010,237, the value of trailers for motor trucks and truck tractors produced in 1935.
