June 19th 1940

We've just come back from 10 days motor trip to N.Y. - a much needed rest which - because of driving, turned out twice as interesting & completely unrestful. Yes - we are in life now - in the parade - subject to Fates largest tragedies [[strikethrough]] or [[/strikethrough]] & joys - & physically mature. E is emotionally mature - but I am not. I don't know yet how much I could take - perhaps because I've never been tested. By this time the war has gained gigantic & lasting proportions. We all are in a  World Revolution, & the largest one in history,  & powerful as hell because it carries an idea. In the East one hears of nothing else, except Wilkie, who yesterday won the Republican nomination for President. Probably the most important
