ART

THE WOMAN'S BUILDING: ALIVE AND LIVING IN L.A.

A few months after its opening in November, 1973, the Woman's Building was a Los Angeles landmark. Now nearing its first anniversary, it has brought together galleries, workshops, studios, and stores that have produced a staggering number of creations by women; and thousands of visitors have toured the building and attended its events
Here, for the first time, women have had control of all aspects of the art-making process, from education through exhibition. One Woman's Building tenant, the Feminist Studio Workshop, is the first institution in the United States to offer degrees in feminist art education.
