to learn of the Woman's Building and its alternatives to traditional education

A Graphics Lab Director/Printer would also be hired to organize the lab, teach, and oversee the production of educational, promotional, and archive materials in both print and graphic media. This director would also administrate the maintenance of existing equipment as well as the purchase of additional equipment such as a flat bed proof press and offset press (enabling the Building to better produce its own materials and archives, saving outside printing costs.)

A zerox machine would be rented on a purchase basis. Materials and supplies such as a slide carousel and 35 millimeter camera would also be purchased. These would be used as instructional aids, would help in the transformation of programs into income generating training/apprenticeships projects, and would assist in the creation of new educational materials. Consultants would be contacted to facilitate all of the reforms mentioned above, as needed.

Programs now slated for more complete conversation into income generating training/apprenticeship projects would include:

VIDEO. The production of an increased number of educational cassettes available on an advertised rental or sale basis. Video "crew" services provided to appropriate groups as part of apprenticeship at a reduced cost i.e. because it is training experience.

GRAPHICS. Production and sale of art works through a mail order catalogue. Graphic services also provided on a reduced fee basis to the public (see above.)

SLIDE REGISTRY. The production of educational slide packages available for sale or rental.

These "conversations" have already been implemented on a small test scale.

Impact Beyond Institutional or Organizational Setting

Establishing a tested model for feminist based education is one of the Woman's Building's goals as well as challenging the orientation of existing liberal arts institutions so that they may increasingly include female perspectives. Sharing learning process, programs, and educational materials (now existing and to be increasingly developed) would constitute the most direct impact of this project.

Beyond this exists the implied impact of an institution dedicated to the creation of female cultural perspectives, community, and artistic work. This is a new and innovative endeavor and would provide the community with continued exposure to the thought and culture of women through the existing vehicles of public exhibitions (Community Galleries), book and poetry readings and publications (Women Writers Series), Performances (Feminist art Workers and other groups) and Video
