Genl C. H. Howard

Genl'
I have the honor to ask as a precautionary measure, that one doz' pails, or buckets be furnished this camp, to be kept constantly on hand, and filled with water: six in the care of the guard at the Guard House, and six in the Store room by the hydrant in the square of this office. In case of fire, to which we are [[currently?]] exposed; our buildings, and wood, might all be destroyed, without a possibility of saving them, as we are so far removed from any organised fire company. Besides, this measure was recommended by an inspecting Officer, of the Q. M. War Dept' some time since. During the summer we were exposed.

I would also ask an order, on Mr Fahey, for forty two (42) pounds of felt for roofing, one barrel (1 bbl') of tar pitch recently used here for repairs.

Also one Keg, 100 pounds nails 10d
