Freedman's Village Va
February 5th 1867

Bvt. Brig. General C.H. Howard
Asst. Commissioner
Washington D.C.

General
In consequence of the bridges being impassible between here and Washington, I have the honor to request that wood be furnished from Alexandria Va.

The people are entirely out of fuel, and it becomes actually necessary that it should be furnished at once I have had men engaged cutting wood, by permission of the Superintendent at the Arlington Cemetery, but that is now exausted.

I am General
Very Respectfully
Your Obedient Servant
P.P. Bergevin
