Capt. A. A. Lawrence V. R. C.
Supt. Freedmen's Village

Sir
I have the honor to request that the roof of my quarters, be repaired as speedily as practicable. During the recent storm the rooms were really flooded. It leaked so badly that I could not find a dry place large enough to put my bed in- and was unable to sit at my desk to write. Myself and my whole family have received severe colds in consequence of our exposure to the wet. I would respectfully suggest that a shingled roof would be better than a tarred one, as the tar is sure to run off in the Summer

I am Sir- Very Respectfully
Your Obedient Servant
