Gen. Chas. H. Howard,
Assistant Commissioner &c

Sir —
Allow me to request that the Dining Hall of the building on the cor. of 22nd and J sts, occupied by myself for the benefit of the freedmen, may be divided by a partition, so that one part can be used as a school room, the other as a dining room, with a door on each end of the latter. The doors are necessary to a suitable passage way from the rooms of the occupants to the out houses in the rear.

I am needing also some ten or twelve black-boards for the use of my schools and as many rough benches.
