VANGUARD OF FREEDOM MANUAL.

HOW TO FORM A DIVISION.
LET the Teacher or Superintendent of the School, on some suitable occasion, after the close of school exercises for the day, introduce the subject with a few remarks on the evils of intemperance,
tobacco-using, profanity, etc., and the desirableness of freedom from all such enslaving habits; and then invite the pupils to form a society to guard themselves and others against such enslavement. A brief statement of what is doing elsewhere to this end may be made.

A copy of the Pledge should be prepared at the head of a sheet of paper (or in a blank-book, to be afterward used as a record-book for the Division), with space for names beneath.

All should then be invited to take the Pledge, either at this time, or at a subsequent meeting to be appointed for the purpose. Those who take the Pledge should be requested to meet at a proper time and place, to adopt a Constitution and elect the Officers required.

Two or more schools located contiguously can unite in forming one Division, if they choose.

The Teacher should assist, if necessary, in drawing up the Constitution in proper form, advise in the selection
