In Compliance with the provision of Circular 6 Hd Qrs Asst Commr Raleigh NC May 21st 1868 I have the honor to Submit the following Statement of Jonah Bryan Freedmen of Carteret County N.C that he being out of employment made applications to Several Parties (Conservatives) for work. Said parties being in want of help all of whom refused him on account of his Political Sentiments, Saying to him why don't you go to the Radicals You Voted for the, would they help you. and when he went to one (Sea Captain) Jacob Chadwick resident Citizen on the Straits in Carteret County N.C did refuse Said Bryan work telling that he did not vote the way he wanted him to that he wanted a man and would give one good wages and a barrel of Corn a month, but would not hire him because
