Dearest Mother:

I was naturally disappointed when, by coincidence you happened to be out when I telephones. Nevertheless I was glad to learn from Esther that you and everybody else up there were well, and I, of course, told her to tell you of my returns of the day to you. Continue to take goodcare of yourself so that you will have a lot of more "Days".

This company of mine is getting me nowhere but until I can see something better to do I'll hold my job so long as they do not let me out. I'd much rather feel that I were building something up for myself but there is nothing for me to turn to now that I feel that the Laboratories haven't been able to keep their original promises to me--things have turned out differently than they were laid out in the beginning of my affiliation. However, if I can hold my present good health and not get hurt, I'll finish my flying as soon as I get opportunity. The present policy is to let a lot go, but gradually so I don't know any more about my own case than before. Hope for the best.

That was more than nine of you to give Ruth and me the Electrolux. I'm taking it for good you bet and sending in the check for the cash credit. It is a dandy machine and I'm so glad we have it. I had figured on keeping it before I heard from you about it all, but it is a satisfaction to know you think well of it too and well enough to make us a present of it. Another thing-- the house needed a cost of paint and I contracted to have the work done. You can imagine how having the extra $65 helped out as a very pleasant and unexpected surprise.

Cole did only a fair job at packing the dishes. The main trouble was the complete loss of a big vegetable dish-not the cover, and a relish dish, long and narrow; also a couple of bad chips out of 2 saucers. The rest of the small chips were either past accidents or they are so small anyway that they wont count. I'll glue the saucers and the relish dish and one day I'll see if Havlland in NYC has a chance of getting me the fall-like cups and replacements. Ruth and I have not had anything to compare with this set in quality, and ever since I can remember I've been crazy about it-- pattern and shapes etc. Ruth shared this feeling and so on another count we owe you more thanks than this orany letter on convey. It is a pleasure to us as long as we live.

Hope you mean what you said about coming backwith Aunt Sarah. Pete, Ruth, and I would all be happy to see you.

I get off from the 26th to the 30th and am trying to get Ruth to take a trip which she badly needs for change and rest. Pete and the housework are too trying and demanding. If she doesn't go somewhere I may myself, or else we'll take daily picnics.
