the past ten years are brought up. The registers show about 37,000 entries, one half of which may be struck off as burned at Chicago or destroyed in the vicissitudes of the museum between 1864 and 1876, when the shells suffered great ravages. On the other hand there are perhaps 20,000 miscellaneous mollusks awaiting entry while the Stearns and Jeffreys collection will contain 50,000 more.

At present owing to the condition of the lower hall no mollusks are on exhibition, but a large number are ready for exhibition whenever cases and facilities may be afforded.

The publications based on the material at New Haven by Prof. Verrill, Miss Bush etc. the writer has not had time to collate for this report. Beside the Catalogue of Lieut. Winslow previously referred to the Curator has published the following articles based on material now in the National Museum or on matter of a cognate character. (See Bibliographical Appendix.
