Dear Mr. Seligman :---

I appreciate your thoughtfulness so very much. I was both shocked and grieved to learn that Hans Waegen had gone and it was very kind of you to remember to let me know. I was very fond of Hans and while I had seen very little of him of late years I had kept a feeling of lasting friendship. His life and bravery under adverse conditions will always be a fine memory to me.

Is there any member of his family to whom I should write. I know so little of his connections or relatives

Mrs. Dillman did not open her Palm Beach House this year so I am home in Detroit on part time duty and she is living at the Everglades Club with her grand-daughter Delphine Dodge. I was very glad to be able to stay home this winter as my husband has been ill and I have two boys in the service. The youngest - who is the West Point graduate of last May is now stationed in Kansas - a first Lieutenant and doing a wonderful job according to his Colonel. His little wife is with him out there. My oldest - who is with the Naval Reserves has been in Australia or thereabouts - for a year and a half as he had enlisted long before Pearl Harbor. We have not heard from him now for over seven weeks which is worrying us - but which we must expect now under these dreadful conditions. The middle boy - Colburn Jr. has been turned down four times by the Army on account of a thyroid condition - but is deep in a defense job at United States Rubber Co. - so we have one lad still at home with us. You are so kind to remember that Fred was at West Point and to ask about him.

I hope if you come our way you will let us know. Colburn and I would be delighted to see you and show you a little of our town and our clubs.

With all gratitude for your thoughtfulness believe me -

Always sincerely
