NY962/P4783 A marble bust, portrait of an unknown man, guaranteed genuine of the epoch of the 16th century.

The artist is unknown, as I told you the options differ. Bode ascribes the bust to Torregiani. I personally believe it to be the portrait of a German, made in France by one of the artists who worked at the Eglise de Brou. The bust has been bought by my from the Comte Laloyere, whose chateau is at Savigny-les-Beaune, near Macon, and it is this pedigree which is the reason why I believe the bust to be French work, but I cannot guarantee this statement. The only guarantee which I give is that the bust is genuine and of the 16th century.
