My dear Friend:

I am sorry I took such a long time to answer your kind letter is which you enclosed reproduction of a Renoir painting.

I have been out of town until now, and hasten to let you know that, much to our regret, we cannot do anything with you about this painting which we have known of a long time and about which we have been engaged in negotiations through other channels.

I hope, nevertheless, that it will not discourage you and that you will have other fine things lined up for me when I arrive in Paris within a week or two.

Looking forward very much to the pleasure of seeing you again,

Believe me to be
Yours very friendly,

(C.M. de Hauke)
