[[species is native to Morocco; Fairchild collected in Africa]] note 2- in 1925-1926, Fairchild travelled through Algeria and Morocco collecting. See Exploring for Plants, pp. 183-184. This was collected in the Atlas Mts. In his usual ebullient style, Fairchild wrote that amoung the ancient Atlas cedars of Azrou, a little garrison town they stayed in, "I saw for the first time a shrub that struck me as having the softest, most velvety leaves I ever felt,...I lost my heart to it at first sight, and the fact that my friend Maire had discovered it there under the Atlas cedars and had named it after the distinguished French botanist Battandier, the almost life-long associate of Trabut, added much to my sentiment about it. Cytissus Battandieri, Maire..." GeoNames has multiple possible territories for Azrou in the mountains. The label doesn't have exact date and precise locality- Country unknown-NC
