The force of the department of Mollusks beside the Curator, for the period reported on, has consisted of

Assistance has also been rendered from time to time, by permission of the Director of the U.S. Geological Survey, by Messrs. R. Stuart, Frank Burns and R. T. Hill of the Geological Survey, chiefly in connection with the Tertiary fossils contributed by the Survey to the Museum.    

The loss of Miss Nicholson, who left the service early in 1887, has been supplied by the appointment of Mr. Jouy, but the department of Mollusks is still greatly
