In addition to descriptions of the shells &c., anatomical details of high importance and previously unknown are given for many species of the Pectenidae; for Dimya, previously known only as a fossil; for species of Modiola and Arca, for the new family Poromyidae, and for the Verticordiidae, Cuspidariidae, and species of Anatinidae. 

The important fact of the absence of gills in the genus Cupidaria (formerly known as Neaera) is established, with many details and a re-arrangement of the genera and sections of the group as well as of the Poromyidae and Verticordiidae.
