Dear Hattie

Just two weeks ago at this hour I was a man who was happy by reason of the privilege of visiting with geo, yourself and father, mother & brothers at your home. But, being a peculiar sort of an animal - in some respect at least I probably didn't give as much conspicuous evidence of my pleasure at that time. That is one of my peculiar characteristics. When I am real happy and I keep very quiet and apparently, unconsciously try to conceal the fact. It might help it - I always feel very much like I used to when a boy - creep into the woods and conceal myself where I could watch the antics of the humming birds - afraid to make a move for fear of frightening them away - so in real pleasure I'm afraid to display my emotions for fear to lose some of the joy.

I know that's a mistake but it's one of those unfortunate habits that humans somehow acquire.

Then too on this particular occasion I was so deeply disappointed that after weeks of planning.
