A G.C. Tradition Is Being Created

By Bonnie Lee McClanahan

A new hotel is being created in Garden City and residents of Hilton Hall have had choice seats in watching the dramatic production unfold. Every bundle of lumber for scaffolding, every bucket of cement for the superstructure has given a command performance for those who watched. Much stimulation for imagination has been provided.

During the cold days of February the developing structure of the Garden City Hotel stood partially wrapped at its site, surrounded by tons and tons of building materials. Sometimes the emerging building looked like a giant honeycomb and the worker buzzed around like bees in their efforts to work in the chilling weather. Sometimes it looked like a collector's cabinet with miniature figures in each compartment. Neither comparison was accurate for the Garden City Hotel was alive and growing - making a dream come true through the foresight, the planning, and the skillful labor of the huge team that is the Nelkin Construction Corp.

Soon not only the residents of Hilton Hall were the audience for the dramatic production, but strollers, motorcyclists, automobile drivers, just about everyone - became a "hotel watcher". Many dramatic feats have been accomplished, more are still to be done, but from the hole in the ground to the glorious cupola that now crowns the Garden City Hotel, unbelievable progress has been made.
