* "I'VE HAD MY SHARE of flying thrills over the years," recalled old-time barnstormer Robert Fogg of Croydon, New Hampshire. "I've had tailspins and crackups, and spent countless hours flying blind in the middle of snowstorms. I've even hung upside down from a wing in mid-air during my days as a stunt pilot. But of all the experiences I've had during my long career as a pilot, one stands out. That was the time I went flying with Eleanor."
   As an afterthought, he added: "Eleanor Roosevelt, that is. She was quite a pilot!"
   A flyer for 55 years, Fogg, a hale and hearty 75-year-old, has flown with the best of them. Even today, though retired, he has been known to "take over a jet for a while" to keep in practice. 
  "I first met Mrs. Roosevelt back in the late '80s," said Fogg, a soft-spoken gentlemen with a quick, friendly smile. "The dark clouds of the Second World War were looming large, and they were looking for a 'grass roots' pilot in Washington to help out, so they selected me.
  "They named me 'chief' of a newly-formed Seaplane Unit. My assignments was to increase the number of seaplane bases throughout the country by providing suitable docks for the seaplanes to use when landing and unloading passengers.
  "The National Youth Administration (N.Y.A.), a work training program for young people, was underway throughout the country, and Mrs. Roosevelt was quite interested in it. I assisted in launching a joint program whereby the N.Y.A. would build and install suitable docks of my design through the country."
