I never knew when I would get a telegram, in analogy, that only I could decode. (Ask my brother). George and Sam certainly did did their courting plentifully with letters and telegrams and flowers, during the six months courtships in each case. My love of surprises was fed constantly, and delightfully "At long last," Sam was ready to do his "sneak" from business, and I worked on the my traveling suit and bought Buddie the sailor suit with long white trow he had coveted, whistle and all. Sam wrote---

"Dear Hattea:

Caroline can't be much warmer than it has been here. I weighed 189 pounds two weeks ago, but dropped twenty. It is now raining huge gobs. Was going to consult my tailor about making me an ice lined suit for the trip south, but I will just wear a Jantzen,"the suit that changed bathing to beachlounging." Sounds as if I were going goofy with the heat. E'n so, Cleopatra, "How did I visualize Charlie Meyer's sister, before I saw her?"

Well, perhaps it is a little amusing at that. In the first place, I deduced that she must be some vamp to surround Buck so easily. Kind of a wild, "no-give-a-dammit-guy" to fall all of a sudden. Hence must be a real vamp. Theta Bara then holding the stage as the exponent of what was new (?) and different(?) in vamping, she must necessarily have black hair and be likewise lope and went through a whole row of contortions just saying, "Hello", and probably tied herself in a knot saying "Good-bye". Buck so short, she probably, in order to dominate him so completely must necessarily be quite tall. Eyes that looked everywhere but straight ahead, and that rolled and rolled. Bull Durham eyes! Dark complexion, perhaps, half senorita. Charlies' hair dark hence hers. One of those eastern brows... high? Ate exactly one atom at a time and that with extreme painful delicacy. Dressed in as little as possible. Quite a bored attitude. Plenty of "Aws" coupled with the few words she was able to remember. Nice girl to meet on a slow train, but hell ( I mean terrible ), to endure. longer. Poor Buck! first thought, then what a no good Charlie must be to let Buck's foot slip, when he knew better than anyone else could have told him what a no good his sister was, as most sisters are of course. Then well, perhaps Buck would wake up before it was too late. He had better, because that Jane would queer bumming around airplanes in a hurry. One week after marriage and she'd have him forgetting anything but New Jersey mosquitoes had wings.
