year before that we were en route to Atlantic City in a Briquet cabin- job. Lorain - Some called it our "starvation days" - the 2 1/2 yrs. when we started "Wacos"— The "Waco-Cootie" that hurt "Buck" — the funny and sad [[strikethrough]] incidents in the making of that ship! [[/strikethrough]]

I remember "Sam" telling me after we were married that I nearly killed Buck one day. Had [[strikethrough]] gone[[/strikethrough]] pushed Bud in his buggy the severial blocks up to our "factory" — a [[rin?]] over a pool [[rin?]] — and that how glad Buck & Sam would be — and humorous Clayb would be — if I surprised 'em. I had on a new tam I had made out of the scraps from a cerise colored corduroy robe and lacy white corduroy skirt was entirely clean, (in spite of an 18 mo old boy) and I had decided— I looked a bit more prosperous than anyone at sunk as we were could look— I popped in the door— all "joie de vivre" — without knocking— (wasn't I young or dumb?) and Buck sort of swallowed and looked a funny color. Instantly I was concerned and he said he was o.k. the "humor" rose to rather unusual heights.

Five yrs later, imagine my consternation to find that the chewing Tobacco that was carried for students, to keep them awake cross country— was the answer to the swallow and the color and the unusual merriment— that I thot was due to my visit in the bright little tam — now called berets. Can ya beat it? Oh, Loraine you are full of memories. Sweet and sad– but none better.

There is a roof on the garage that Bill Song used to own. He had one of the first roof markers

Transcription Notes:
