EDITORIAL DEPARTMENT

THE NATIONAL CYCLOPEDIA
OF AMERICAN BIOGRAPHY

James T.White & Co.
70 Fifth Ave. New York

January 29, 1927.

Mr. Lewis E. St.John
Troy, Ohio

Dear Sir:

Your letter of January 27th concerning a biography of the late Elwood J. Junkin for the National Cyclopedia of American Biography has been received.

Please be assured that no expense or obligation whatsoever is incurred in complying with our request and neither do we expect Mrs. Junkin to subscribe to the the books.

Successive editions of the National Cyclopedia are reserved in advance for distribution to schools and colleges, newspaper offices, historical societies and public and private libraries the country over.

While the publishers do make a charge if a portrait illustration is wanted to accompany the biography, this is something entirely optional in every case.

The biographies in this Cyclopedia are published entirely on their merit and consequently there is no space for sale. The object of the National Cyclopedia of American Biography is to record American industries, American institutions and American achievements in terms of biography and in the nearly forty years of its existence it has won a prominent place in American literature as the standard biographical authority of the country.

We trust, therefore, that in view of these explanations Mrs. Junkin will reconsider our request and kindly send us the information indicated on the enclosed blank, particularly the details of her husband's life work under paragraph 11.

Yours very truly,
George Derby
