[[strikethrough]]and Assistant Curator were without any one with even an elementary knowledge of the Scientific side of the work of the Department[[/strikethrough]] On account of a lack of competent assistance in the scientific work of the Department. Mr. Bond has [[strikethrough]]been extremely [[/strikethrough]] performed carefully and faithfully [[strikethrough]] on his work and has accomplished[[/strikethrough]] all that has been [[strikethrough]] was [[/strikethrough]] required of him. [[strikethrough]] in a manner which it gives me pleasure to acknowledge [[/strikethrough]] Miss Beard, whose work while detailed to the Department has been chiefly confined to sorting over the fine gravel and bottom[[strikethrough]] stuff [[/strikethrough]]  material obtained from deep-sea dredgings, has [[strikethrough]] been patient and careful with her very tedious work and has [[/strikethrough]] made satisfactory progress.

The Department has never before been so well equipped, [[strikethrough]] to do its work [[/strikethrough]] and the result [[strikethrough]] although practically only for the six months forming the latter half of the current year [[/strikethrough]] is highly satisfactory.
