Dear Doris:

We are happy to be hearing from you so frequently and sharing a little in your days there. Dolores called me up last night to chat a bit. She said she was getting so she couldn't study at night, so tired out that she went to sleep instead, but was forming a habit of studying a couple of hours every morning when she accomplished much more. She is having a coat that the woman across the street gave her remodelled, only the tailor couldn't finish it until after Xmas. I told her we had one, the blue one with a fur collar, for her, and I thought all she needed to do was to shorten it a bit. I think she was pleased. We will take it out some time soon. The tailor was going to charge nearly $10 for it, but I told her she couldn't get a coat so cheaply, so to look at it in that way. She planned to write you soon.

Did your "neglect" to sign on your arrival make you subject to the penalty of staying there that weekend? Or do you have to stay one weekend to help in the chores? I wasn't quite certain what you meant by it.

I hope you like the spread. It seemed so much less voluminous than any I had and also a good color to match. Wasn't it a bargain for $1? Will try to get cloth sometime for another.

Dad is staying home today so as to let his heel heal up. He has papers strung the length of 2 tales, blanket, hot water bottle, smoking paraphrenalia, etc., and is having a thoroly nice time working on his list and being waited on by me. It is a mild, sunny day and the old cat is lying on the steps basking. I am planning to dig up my house plants for the winter this afternoon. We still have an abundance of tomatoes ripening and roses blooming.
