Dear Doris:-

After a rather nasty August we are now getting some excellent fall weather -- regular Indian summer. We have had some real rains though -- & I believe one is forecast for to-morrow. Very busy at the mill. Handling a lot of hardwood now - that is coming down from Jackson, N.H. Mostly Beech -- but also a bit of yellow & white Birch, & Rock Maple & White Maple. The foliage is right at it's peak of color at Passaconaway now. Sunday we went up to camp to put in a stove & set up a couple of stovepipes for Joe. In the late afternoon I took a stroll a ways up the Oliverian Trail - & within a quarter of a mile from camp saw a deer. Hope to see some when the hunting season opens Nov. 15th as meat is practically non-existent in the markets.

Heard from Connie about a week ago. She is doing well in school - & likes High School very much. No doubt Doris is getting well acclimated at Radcliffe by now. I thought it would be nice to take Connie to the Harvard-Yale football game at Cambridge this fall & wrote to her to that effect. She wants to go & her mother & Mr. Cram approve. Do you suppose Doris would like to go with us? It would be an interesting experience for her & give Doris & Connie a chance to get acquainted.
