John Wells is occupying a log shanty outside of Freedmans Village and is renting 10 acres of land of the "Arlington" Estate for which he pays $30 00 per annum. He desires authority to continue in the occupancy of the building referred to, or would purchase it, in order that he may feel secure from interruption and from being turned out by others.

The house was erected by Dr Nichols, the Freedmen doing the work, and built of logs which were old puncheons picked up, which became valuless at the Close of the late war

The government was at no expense in regard to its erection, and it is not borne on the papers of any officer. - The present Occupant John Wells, has a good character for honesty and proper deportment, is industrious and a peaceable & worthy Citizen, with a family of four persons partially dependent upon him for support.
