What the Man Will Wear

Evening.
IN THE land of the blind the one-eyed man is king, and in a department of dress so bare of change as evening wear, almost any sort of innovation is hailed as a relief from monotony. Hence, the new open-mesh knitted silk waistcoat, black or white, for the evening brought out in Paris may command notice. It is supposed to be softer and cooler than woven linen or cotton. However, silk is a material that has never gained much acceptance among Americans for the evening waistcoat.

Seemingly, they ware trying to make the Panama the spruce straw to go with the dinner jacket in Summer. This movement was launched in Florida, and youngsters are promoting it with the zeal that always marks rebellious against established fashion. The Panama is not the proper hat, but, then, neither was the white waistcoat traditionally correct with one's dinner kit. It has come to be adopted through the force majeure of use, that's all.

As foretold here, there is a noticeable swing back to simple black half-hose, without clocks or openwork, for evening wear. 

Afternoon
Fashion tipsters, like the Parsee, must be men of infinite resource and sagacity to explain everything. Though it is commonly contended that the double-breasted jacket is overly warm for the period of "lassitude and loungitude," such old-time distinctions are gradually being expunged.
