I have been at the museum most of the day, and now have Dad's supper to get and the other chores.
Love,
Mother.

Dear Doris:

We had a letter from Miss Gardner last week.
She is back in Tokyo but is now expected to be in Wash. in a month or so. She will have been away nearly a year.

Last evening when I got home I pulled on the hood release to open up the front of the car. There was an unpleasant metallic tearing sound and the handle and about 6 inches of cable pulled back into the car. I took it around this morning to be repaired, but found I would have to wait so long that I decided to let it go until Thursday. The car continues to drive very satisfactorily. On our N.C. trip we got 18.2 miles to the gallon although we drove at 50 miles or faster most of the time.

It is still very mild, in the low 80's today altho' in the 50's in the early morning. I got a new furnace pipe put in & am very glad I did, as the old one, when taken off, proved to have numerous areas that I could push my finger thru.

The old cat, while we were away & for a few days after, spent most of his time in a carton floored with Spainish moss in the kitchen. Then he abandoned it, probably because the fleas had also occupied it, & now spends most of his time sleeping on the couch. Don't overwork, and study spelling in your spare moments. Love, SFB
