Dear Doris:

We got home in good time yesterday afternoon from our 4 days' trip. We had a good time & fairly good weather & I got a lot of plants I had never seen growing before, some of them very handsome, particularly those related to blazing-star. Got one new form (albino) of a purple composite. We had a fine dinner the first night at the H.& W. at Wilmington (turkey slices with stuffing & mashed potatoes & biscuit & nice pie). Next day we drove down to Southport and over the line into S.C. and back to Southport for the night. Correll, a man in my office, had told me about a hotel there & a 1-armed woman who ran a boarding house. I entered the hotel and found a very uninteresting looking Coca Cola sort of lunchroom, with a juke box going full blast. I purchased a Coca Cola to cover my presence and backed out & entered into
