Oct 13 Mon. night
Arlington Va

Dear Doris:

We are safely home after our 1100 mile ride at 5 p.m. We spent the night at Elizabeth City N.C. (near Norfolk) and all the forenoon driving about the flat land north to Norfolk. We finally emerged near Va. Beach and drove out to see the great waves rolling in under an east wind. Then we headed home via Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Richmond, skirting all the cities on the wide new highway built during the war. The country about Norfolk has changed a lot during war years. Dad has a large pressful of composites. He is satisfied with his haul but I collected little at this late date. We both had a good time but missed you, as this is our first trip of the kind without you. Hope all is going well, will write more later.

Love Mother
