Dear Doris:

We had a good day at Plum Pt. today. The banks were in better shape than they have been before this year & I got a fair number of moderately good shells, altho' no Icala. Met a young fellow going along the beach collecting sharks teach in a little bag. He said he had thousands of them at home.

Mother collected a fair amount of driftwood for the fireplace & we got 3 [[strikethrough]] bag [[/strikethrough]] buckets of dirt to set out some bulbs in. Also 2 good beetles (of which I found 1). Saw about 4 box turtles & 1 black snake that had been run over. We were warm when we sat in the sun & cool in the shade. There won't be many more such Sundays.

I bought a new cord for my hot plate at the office & now it works perfectly again. It is the only one around that will heat water for tea in less than about half an hour.

We have kept our furnace fire going ever since we got back. It is unnecessary some days but needed in morning & evenings.

I think it was awfully silly of you to forget to file your list of courses & get fined $5 for it. Try to make a schedule on your calender of such things that have to be done, if there are any more of them, & do them on time. College costs enough without throwing away money quite needlessly in this fashion.

Miss Gardner hasn't been heard from yet & we don't know when she is to get back & no one at the Museum seems to know either. Apparently she has left Japan and is on her way back.

I enclose check for $20, Please use it carefully. We may have to work out a budget system.

Take good care of yourself.
Love,
Dad
