Dear folks,

Duffy has [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] a marvelous oil painting over her desks: a river with bridge and boats. Except that the boats look Venetian, I would imagine it down at the [[strikethrough]] riv [[/strikethrough]] Potomac. A man is fishing from one of the boats, too. I wish you could get down & paint. We can do it on Sundays, I guess.

I think the "tempest" is almost over. I shall tell Bill: that the task of fighting the world, for which he so admires Harry, [[strikethrough]] has [[/strikethrough]] is not the biggest or best, and that so-called adjustment to life needn't involve the mental stagnation [[strikethrough]] egu [[/strikethrough]] he calls contented cow-ness. Every time this feeling comes it is stronger. I am almost independent of people & things now.. "The good man" said Plato, "is he who is [[strikethrough]] not effected [[/strikethrough]] only injured by internal, not external events!! (paraphase) [[paraphrase]]. I think I understand Jean now, and Bill, and Jane.. to a certain extent only, of course, but sufficiently.

Maybe tho' this is just due to the conjunction of many favorable events (but I don't think so): date with Duff tonight. I've been attending the lectures of his favorite class: Parson's "[[strikethrough]] Psychology [[/strikethrough]] Sociology of Religions." pretty wise lecturer. Covered Buddhaism [[Buddhism]], Judaism, & Christianity in 2 sessions each..quite revealing, tho' I knew much already. Darius today was his usual self. He's going to take Richards' place next week in Humanities ie.- so I audit . Richards finished his conduct of language course today with a very dramatic, or rather, moving reading of a 4c A.D. Chinese man's vivid & imageful description of inspired composition.

Well, to get this letter off to you I'll seal. Am in Biola. Cap Weston has been asking when Dad would be up. I told him of the new book's going into copy stage.

I have my exam schedule at last: May 21: Richards; 22: Shakespeare; 24: Milton; 29: Biology. See very hard work ahead, but will be done major by time you arrive.
