Dear Doris,

It is cool here tonight and we have been trying to keep warm by burning up some old bushel baskets which have outlived their usefulness as ash baskets. I went back to long legged underwear today, after 1 day of short. Our fire went out a couple of days ago; we may yet have to build it up again.

The copying of the list of floras is going on well enough, and Mrs. Nimocks is doing surprisingly well at it. In addition to these tiny European countries, with only 1 to 9 titles each, we have got half way thru Belgium, which has about 90. I find it is considerable of a job to get the cards into really final shape for copying, I have to make so many minor changes, additions, & subtractions.

The old cat seems to be in pretty good shape now, altho' definitely not as peppy as he used to be. The big fish of still unknown species has been acting lumpish for 2 or 3 days. He has stayed at the bottom of his tank and refused to take nourishment in the form of worms. We gave him a salt bath last night and may give him another tomorrow.

I seem to be running out of items to write about and the fire has burned out & it is getting cold again, so I think we will heat up the hot water bottles & go to bed. We haven't used them for some time, but the sheets we now have on the beds are pretty cold to get into.

Love
Dad.
