Dear Doris:

As mother said, it has been a hot & muggy day, but there is a fairly cool breeze from the west this evening. Our Forsythia is in full flower and by far the best one on the street. Mother has taken off a lot of branches for the house and to give to Julia Gardner & others in the last few weeks. Four yellow tulips were out today & the hyacinths are coming right along.

There is one errand I wish you would undertake for me before you come down. I promised to get a copy of Three men in a boat for Dr. Rickett, who put me up for a whole week last summer. The only copy I have located was in one of the larger 2d hand bookstores in Harvard Sq. I forget its name, but it is the one opposite Harvard and several blocks up (toward Boston) from the subway station. They had a copy of the 1st ed. for about $4. I wish you would see if they still have it, if so, get it and bring it down, I will repay you, of course.

We burnt some wet leaves in the gutter today & created a lot of smoke. Many neighbors were doing the same.

After my bath I got all dressed to go to L.C. and then decided to stay at home instead. So I have been plugging away at List of Floras as ever.

Hope to see you in a week. Better make sure that no train you expected to take has been cancelled. Try to give us an idea what time to expect you here. If you can't tell, you may have to call us up from the station. Love,
Dad
