Dear folks,

Despite the fact that I haven't done any homework yet, I went to "Gentleman's Agreement" last night; the next to the last night of its showing. (Early show)It was Hollywoodish in its punch lines, overdramatizating, obvious rather than subltle [[subtle]] points (tho some nice things), love story, and big name actors holding our interest; but very intelligent amassing and fitting in of as many possible angles of the problem as could be done; and characters [[strikethrough]] made [[/strikethrough]] in general talked intelligently, with an allusion to Hamlet, for example; dialogue was a bit too witty as is the tendency, at times. It might have been better in the first part if a fat gentleman(probably taking advantage of the truce) next to me hadn't observed I was a singel [[single]] girl and put his arm on my leg. (No real prejudice intended.) Back to the movie, had an interesting talk with Jean (who has seen it 4 times) and Jolly on return. Jolly thinks it a bit exaggerated; [[strikethrough]] but [[/strikethrough]] conceded my point that frequently the reverse occurs--Jews exclude and feel superior to Christians; she is always speaking of the extreme closeness of all her large family, Jean pointed out and was interested in investigating.

Am going to try and switch from Jordon's dull course to Richards' fascinating "Conduct of Language." See Dean today.

Love,
Doris
